  • This has been a great car! - 2004 Lexus RX 330

I bought this used in 2015 with 125K miles on it. Previous owner took very good care of it. It now has 175k miles on it. I am looking at a repair now for a transfer case leak, and this will be my first major repair. I should tell you that club Lexus has been a great resource for information. My daughter cracked the vinyl on the passenger dash by riding with her feet on the dash. Contacted Lexus and they replaced the dash for FREE - a $1500 repair. Said that they didn't want their cars seen with cracked dashes. This was in 2018 well past orig 10 year warranty. That really impressed me. I expect to drive this car to 250k at least. My only regret is that the 2004 did not come with Bluetooth for you phone - that did not come until 2005.

Wife had an ls400 and wanted to sit higher and drive a smaller vehicle. cannot beat dealer service and sales experience. rented an fx 35 for two weeks prior to buying the rx330. husband loved the looks and performance of the infinity, but wife liked lexus comfort and cushy ride. rx330 performance adequate for a wife driver.

  • Love-Hate Relationship with my RX 330 - 2004 Lexus RX 330

On the highway, the RX 330 drives like a dream, but in-town driving is a different story. The transmission is terrible when shifting from first to second gear; too much hesitation. The headlights have a blind spot in curves. I expected more at this price point.

The big disappointment has been the transmission. When you are driving at 60 or 70 kilometers an hour and let off the gas to slow down, the transmission puts on some type of brakes on and off and makes for a very jerky ride when you are slowing down I usually slip the transmission into neutral and back into drive, and this gets rid of the problem. This is the main reason why I would not consider buying another RX330 Its been back to the dealer 3 times The dash has an irritable sqeak, The dealer knows about it , but as of yet do not have a fix. I have shoved some rubber hose down between the dash and the windshield.

  • Unbelievable Lemon Lexus - 2004 Lexus RX 330

I purchased the Lexus for mechanical reliability; unfortunately in the first week the gas tank had to be reattached because it was not bolted properly. Shortly after that the power steering pump had to be replaced; the radio stopped playing, the amplifier had to be replaced; the ignition system chimed after I removed the key, had to be replaced; then the radiator was recalled and had to be replaced. The transmission seemed confused at times when accelerating.I asked for a replacement car after the first incident in the first week;Lexus customer service said it was all covered under warranty and offered an extended warranty 6 mo later. I would not pay the extra money for a Lexus again.

It depends on what you want. More power and more comfy seats would be ideal. Other than that. Its great. My back hurts all the time from the seats, though.

  • Radio and CD - 2004 Lexus RX 330
    By -

My Lexus only has 20,000 miles on it, but the CD player is already going out. I can only play one CD instead of the 6 that are available. I took it to a place I know is reliable (they work on car sound equipment) and he said it is almost gone. Other than that I love the car..

  • Some major problems - 2004 Lexus RX 330
    By -

While I love driving my Lexus, I have had some major concerns with design problems and one significant safety issue with my rotors. Twice it was necessary to machine my rotors because of warpage from overheating and which caused significant and uncontrollable shaking of my steering wheel. Also, if only a rear window or sunroof window is opened, an intense vacuum is created in the interior which hurts my ears. I must open my drivers window to eliminate this vacuum -- very poor design! I have also had problems with my rear window spoiler weatherstripping, several scratches on the exterior finish, intermittent unworkable power rear door, and transmission surges and jerks from shifting.
